I moved into my new house with 2 friends at the weekend and while still figuring things out and discovering how things work (such as a minor leak from the shower) I found 10 snails on the underside of a plank of wood in our massive back yard. This is one of them.

A new Irish Souvenir shop opened in Belfast city centre recently. There’s some fun things, useless things and generally lots of green things and Guinness related things. As there’s always an increasing number of tourists running around the city I’m sure it’ll get plenty of business.

I went on a well overdue photo walk around the city centre and through Botanic Gardens yesterday evening. So enjoyable walking around with my camera and spotting things. I stopped in the City Hall grounds to look at the 1000 Families photography exhibition by Uwe Ommer, before spotting this seagull on the wall surrounding the city hall, and this is exactly how I saw the picture in my head.

Whenever I look back on my old photographs of the last few years I always notice how much I like each new image so much more than the last. And so an image taken 2 years ago, is hard to enjoy as much as one taken yesterday.

This is true with this image. I remember taking a photograph of this same ornamental twig-thing at my parents house which I posted on my blog on 5th Feb 2008. I loved the photograph then. Looking back, it really isn’t so good. So when I was there on Sunday, wandering around with my camera in my hand, ‘cos theres nothing good on T.V., I thought of having another go.

The result is this image, and yesterdays, which is another part of it.

I remember a fellow photographer saying to me that I will hate all these photographs in a few years time. That was 2 1/2 years ago. He was indeed correct. Okay, there are definitely some that I like. Even printed and framed one recently that I took using my old compact camera. But it doesn’t happen often.

I still don’t know half as much about photography as I would like, and the best part is learning more every time I take a new photograph.

After taking the previous two shots on my walk through Ormeau Park close to my house, I went off the path, began looking around the grass for interesting stuff. Then I saw something orange/brown/gold move close to the ground.

It stopped. A frog. I had never seen a frog like this in Belfast and was very pleased that it didn’t just run off, but instead stayed very still in the grass allowing me to get very close to it and take plenty of shots.
